GENERAL INFORMATION ON OUR CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

St. Matthew’s Children’s Ministry welcomes preschool through fifth grade children to participate in weekly Sunday school, occasional feast nights, Vacation Bible School, and other special events. It is a comprehensive ministry in which children experience the word of God through traditional Anglican curriculum and activities.

Sunday School
9:00 am, weekly
:: Preschool (aka Little Lambs) is located in the Montessori School building.
:: Junior Disciples, first through third grades, is located in the divided room across from the church office.
:: Disciples, fourth and fifth grades, is located in the divided room across from the church office.

Sunday school curriculum follows the traditional Anglican Church year, with sequential resource materials from the American Church Union. Children, who have regular attendance, acquire the basic principles and knowledge of the curriculum. Those children who meet the required session with the Rector will be invited to commence First Communion and Confirmation in their fourth and/or fifth grade years.

Nursery

St Matthew’s Nursery provides a safe, loving, and comfortable environment for infants and toddlers, up to three year olds, during the Sunday morning 8:45 Family Service, 10:30 Service, and at special church events as announced. Volunteers are always welcome to sign up for this important ministry by calling the church office at (949) 219-0911.

Feast Nights
Children’s activities related to the occasion are provided for the following Feasts:
:: Epiphany or Purification
:: Shrove Tuesday
:: Easter
:: St. Barnabas
:: Transfiguration/VBS
:: St. Michael and All Angels
:: All Saints

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Vacation Bible School is open to kindergarten through fifth grade parishioners and their friends. This year's VBS will be held July 13 - 18, 2008. Registration begins in May.

Other Special Events
:: The Children’s Choir, in coordination with the Children’s Choir Director and the Church Choirmaster, serves in the Christmas Eve family service and a designated service in the spring.
:: “Children Helping Children” is a ministry for St. Matthew’s children to support those with less fortunate circumstances. Junior Disciples and Disciples give weekly offerings, and Easter and Christmas items for our Casa Hogar Peregrinos de la Palabra de Dios orphanage in Mexico. They also package boxes with gifts for Operation Christmas Child, which is sponsored by the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief organization. Also, during VBS, children participate with the Outreach Committee in a donation activity for a specified charity.

St. Matthew’s Children’s Ministry is strongly supported by parishioners who volunteer their time and talent. We are blessed to have their dedicated service. For volunteer opportunities, please contact Christy Salerno, Director of Children’s Ministry at office@stmatthewsacc.com, or (949) 219-0911.
